Red Legion Calls for Player Transfer Reforms in the NXL

Red Legion Calls for Player Transfer Reforms in the NXL

January 24, 2025 — The Red Legion Paintball Club urges the National Xball League (NXL) to implement formal regulations governing player transfers following a recent incident that highlights the need for greater accountability and professionalism within the league.

Recently, an NXL Pro joined Red Legion following extensive negotiations and a commitment from the player to join the team on mutually agreed terms. However, shortly after reporting, the player abruptly departed and was announced as a member of another team the next day. This behavior reflects broader issues stemming from the absence of clear league rules on player transfers.

To address these challenges and strengthen the league’s credibility, Red Legion proposes the following reforms:

  • Establish Formal Transfer Rules: Implement structured and enforceable guidelines to regulate player movements and uphold contractual commitments.
  • Ensure Accountability: Introduce measures to hold players and teams accountable for actions that breach agreed standards.
  • Modernize Governance: Adopt professional practices to elevate the NXL’s reputation and position it for greater media and sponsorship opportunities.

“The current unregulated environment undermines the league’s integrity and growth potential,” stated Alexander Tarando, team’s manager. “We call on the NXL leadership to prioritize these reforms and collaborate with teams to create a more competitive and fair league.

Red Legion remains committed to fostering a professional environment that benefits all stakeholders and looks forward to working with the league to achieve these objectives.

Open Letter

To:
Mr. Jason Trosen, Commissioner
Mr. Tom Cole, President National Xball League (NXL)

Subject: Addressing Player Transfer Rules and the Mike Urena Situation

Dear Mr. Trosen and Mr. Cole,

On behalf of the Red Legion Paintball Club, I write to address an issue that has significant implications for the integrity and professionalism of our league: the recent situation involving NXL Pro Mike Urena. This matter highlights broader concerns that must be addressed to ensure the league’s continued growth and credibility.

First, let us share the details surrounding Mr. Urena’s departure. After extensive negotiations, Red Legion secured Mr. Urena’s commitment to join our team under mutually agreed terms. He reported to the team, attended the initial day of training, and subsequently departed without notice during a brief absence by our coach, leaving only a note at the residence. The following day, an official announcement was made regarding his transition to another team. Such behavior not only undermines our club but reflects poorly on the league as a whole.

Red Legion has always adhered to a clear set of principles regarding player acquisitions

  1. Respect for Contractual Obligations: We engage only with players who are free of any existing contractual commitments to other teams.
  2. Avoidance of Bidding Wars: To prevent artificial inflation of player salaries, we present offers that require acceptance or rejection prior to any other negotiations.

These principles promote fairness and professionalism, ensuring stability for teams and players alike. Unfortunately, the absence of formal league rules governing player transfers creates an environment ripe for exploitation, leading to situations such as the one described above.

For the NXL to continue gaining traction and achieving its full potential, including securing broadcasting deals and broader public interest, it is imperative to modernize our operational framework. The current unregulated environment resembles a “wild west” where player poaching and unrestricted movement compromise the league’s professionalism. To align with the standards of other major sports leagues, we urge the NXL to:

  1. Institute Formal Player Transfer Rules: Establish clear and enforceable guidelines that protect contractual agreements and provide a structured approach to player movements.
  2. Promote Accountability: Implement repercussions for players and teams that violate these standards to maintain integrity and trust.
  3. Enhance League Reputation: Adopt modern governance practices to present the NXL as a professional and organized entity ready to compete on the global stage.

As stakeholders in the NXL’s success, we call upon you to lead this initiative, bringing together team owners, players, and league officials to develop and implement these much-needed reforms. By doing so, we can foster a competitive, fair, and professional league that attracts fans, sponsors, and media partners alike.

We remain committed to working collaboratively with the league and other teams to achieve these goals. Please feel free to contact us to discuss this matter further. We look forward to your response and to witnessing the positive changes that will undoubtedly elevate the NXL to new heights.

Sincerely,
Alexander Tarando
Red Legion Team
